Sen Academy can help your child discover their own unique
path to learning mathematics.
Worried about Project Maths? Sen Academy can help.
Understanding maths is important - not just for Junior and Leaving Cert results - but because it is key to maximising your son or daughter's future education and work opportunities.
However, the path and pace your teenager needs to best learn maths is unique. Many people may feel frustrated if they do not follow a concept when it is first introduced. In reality, none of us are experts in any subject straight away. It's just like learning skills in hurling or poses in ballet, success in project maths requires practice at your own pace.
Sen Academy are education specialists. We run project maths coaching for Junior Cert and Leaving Cert students in Ireland in 2-hour weekly workshops and 3-day camps during breaks.
Each student's learning is at the centre of everything we do at Sen Academy. We use the latest international best-practices for effective mathematics teaching to help your son or daughter find the way in which they learn best.
Our guiding "Student First" principles are:
- Different students. Different paths.
- Quality practice to build skills.
- Create a learning environment.
- Build student confidence.
What should I expect?
Set your own agenda.
Work on issues you are having at school. You'll send on photos of problems you encounter during the week. So, you'll learn maths AND get your homework done.
Learn from excellent teachers.
Our teachers eat, breathe and sleep maths education. But, we think you'll also learn by meeting other students who are working on the same problems as you.
Practice without judgement.
The old adage that "practice makes perfect" is as true for maths as it is for hurling and ballet. And practicing maths means learning from your mistakes.
Our weekly workshops and 3-day camps are helping to change students' mindsets about how to get better at maths. And, if you look around our site, you'll see what they have to say. But, you don't have to take our word for it. Come to your first workshop free of charge. Experience for yourself what Sen Academy is about and do it at no cost to you.
Sen Academy principles put
Students
First.
Different students. Different paths.
Every young person has a unique approach to learning maths. We believe that it's vital for them to develop at their own pace. The focus is on each student overcoming their own maths problems. So, no one is left behind and no one is held back.
Your son or daughter may need time to think quietly, to be in pairs or small groups to share ideas and learn from others or they may need to actively participate in a whole-class discussion. Or, they may need some combination of all three.
Quality practice.
Maths practice usually happens in isolation at home or in study. Many students lose motivation and confidence when they encounter difficulties. This is a critical point in their learning.
We recognise that practicing maths problems helps build understanding. We integrate learning-by-doing into our workshops. This develops problem-solving skills important to succeeding in the Project Maths curriculum.
Learning environment.
When students feel comfortable to think for themselves, ask questions and make mistakes, an atmosphere of learning is created.
We provide many ways for your child to learn. We discuss difficulties they've encountered in maths and we ask them to share their solution strategies to compare with other student approaches.
Focus on confidence.
We want to help students build confidence in their own maths ability. Belief in themselves as learners helps them persevere in the face of maths challenges.
For example, we help your son or daughter realise that getting stuck is a natural stage of learning rather than "wrong thinking." And, by sharing difficulties with other students, we show them they are not alone.

Why do I like Sen Academy?
It really helps me with my maths and study. It is also great fun as well because we work together with the rest of the class to find solutions to tricky problems.
Why I came to Sen Academy?
I sometimes can find maths quite hard so my mum found Sen Academy and sent me here.
How would I describe these workshops?
I feel confident that I know the maths. I don't get lost at school the way I used to.
One thing I wasn't expecting at Sen Academy?
When my mom brought me here I did not think I would enjoy it the way that I do. And now I feel good about maths every time I get back from the class.
Sarah, Aged 14, 2nd Year
Why I came to Sen Academy?
To have a better understanding of maths I do in school and how I would solve my maths problems.
Why do I like Sen Academy?
Its very useful. It helps to get a better understanding of the subject of your choice.
How would I describe these workshops?
It is two hours of maths. It would be like tutoring but the tutor doesn't give a lecture about something irrelevant for an hour, you get to pick a subject to work on. If you get stuck, you can ask for help but they won't give the full information just parts you can piece together to solve the question.
One thing I wasn't expecting at Sen Academy?
I had people from around my age group with the same problems and we could work together to solve the different problems.
